The Jonah Collector Release Day and Book Event

Literary, lyrical prose in the form of nautical narrative is: The Jonah Collector

Inspired by the Rime of the Ancient Mariner, The Jonah Collector offers something new to the seafaring, mermaid, and pirate genres. The tale is about a sea captain whose days are bogged down by regret, stress, and homesickness.

Captain Christopher Houston is a seafaring man. He lives on the sea. He is the best ship captain in the world. He is also deceased.

In this epic tale, we discover that in his youth, Captain Houston committed a heinous crime. He lied about his age to get onboard a ship because his father had died. The young man wanted to support his mother by earning a wage. Unfortunately, he was too inexperienced. He found himself labeled a Jonah, the weakest link, and forced to walk the plank.

As his ship sailed away, the ocean took him down to the Locker. In the Depths, a beautiful mermaid made him a deal. Captain Houston did not understand the contract that saved his life, and was later able to nullify the mermaid's evil intent because he was not of age to consent to such an agreement.

Years had passed since his encounter. Something inside of him stirred. He knew that his youthful mistake was about to catch up with his present.

Unbeknownst to him, the mermaid, Aetheshella, devised a scheme to lure Christopher back to her through fate. She went after his son. Now, Captain Houston has a choice: save his son or himself.

Will he be the next victim of The Jonah Collector?

A Novelist Idea newsletter is hosting the Ignite Your Imagination: The Jonah Collector Release Party on June 23, 2023.

WordCrafter Blog Tour! Refracted Reflections: Twisted Tales of Duality & Deception

Mirror, Mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?

In community college, I played the Mirror in the dramatic re-imaging of The Emperor has No Clothes. This anthology of short stories has a kinship with that play, as the image of the mirror takes on an important role straight into our imaginations.

What do you see when you look into the mirror? You? The past? The present? How about a future waiting to unfold? Or, do you see the sinister? Bloody Mary, perhaps? Or, shadows that move when you don't?

Refracted Reflections: Twisted Tales of Duality and Deception delves into those deep dark crevices of our shadow psyche. From inducing possession, committing murder/suicide or as cursed objects, mirrors have a unique hold on our imaginations. The short stories contained within the pages of this anthology will do just the same to its readers.

The Cost of Magic By Keith Hoskins tells the tale of vengeance. In this short story, mirrors are used as magical tools, but there was a penalty for using such a device. Magical mirrors extracted a price to those individuals who are gifted with knowledge through its spell work. Can magic be a means to an end?

The Elevator Ritual By Shelly Jasperson will send tingles down your spine as her character grapples with the suicide of a stranger, and the death of her sister in the haunted images of an elevator's mirrors. Would you survive the spirit in your reflection?

The Tinker’s Gift By Valerie B. Williams has a mirror that eases people beyond the veil by showing them their heart's desire: their beloved. Could a solider's last glimpse end a curse and bring balance back to the world?

Refracted Reflections has a mirror image worth shivering for... Happy Autumn Haunts!

*****

One reveals truths, while the other bends light into varying shapes of deception.

Does a small camp mirror reveal hope… or death?

Is the warrior in the mirror a monster… or a protector?

Does a glimpse in the  mirror reveal a young woman’s true self… or what someone else has shaped her into?

Does the mysterious portal to the future reflect what could be… or what must be left behind?

Are the dancers reflected in the water’s depth things of beauty… or evil?

This unique and imaginative collection of nine mind tantalizing fantasy and science fiction stories will appeal to readers who enjoy thought provoking tales with hidden meanings resting deep below the surface. These stories will keep you pondering long into the night.

If you liked Gilded Glass or Once Upon an Ever After, you’ll love Refracted Reflections.

Digital Giveaway

For a chance to win a free digital copy of Refracted Reflections, just leave a comment to show you were here. Follow the tour and comment at each stop for more chances to win. Three copies will be given away in a random drawing.

_____

About The Book

Each of the stories included in Refracted Reflections feature a mirror or reflection in some significant way. The reflections given are sometimes surprising, often fooling those who gaze upon them, because things aren’t often as they seem.

I have included two of my own stories, “The Devil Made Her Do It”, which is a reprinted story about a woman blinded by love and deceived by a man who just might be the devil, which first appeared in Relationship Add Vice, from Zombie Pirates Publishing; and an original fairy tale, The Not So Perfect Prince, about a prince who is so full of himself that he can’t see who he truly is.

But mine are only two among nine outstanding stories by eight talented authors, and we’ll be introducing five of the contributing authors on this tour: Valerie B. Williams, Roberta Eaton Cheadle, Ligia de Wit, Elisabeth Caldwell, and of course me, Kaye Lynne Booth.

The Creative Mind in a World Gone Mad: How do We Take Back Our Imaginations?

Once I thought that the human imagination was boundless and beautiful overflowing with hope, in the years since, I have discovered that some of our mind's have ventured from the possible, probable, and poetic into a landscape of fear and dread.

The creative mind's "what if" moment of variability had been intersected. When an elite few realized that their dystopian future would shrink the quantum possibilities into one narrow passage, a new era of manipulation began. Humans don't have informed consent; we have manufactured consent.

The most steered aspects of our society have been the sciences and the arts. That cross-section of our culture has been handicapped, and our development stunted by this destructive agenda. Imagination? Creativity? ...where?

Anyone can observe the unimaginative movies, predetermined book publications, and repetitive musical interludes. As a child of the 1980's, I am bored with this curated selection of negative, trash-filled redundancy.

In the past decade, I have become concerned by the lack of original thought in our society. Instead, I perceive a propagandist's point of view influencing us. Yes, even in the arts and sciences is this negative agenda pushing forward. Should I name the offenses, or, can you decipher these issues for yourself?

As an artist, poet, and writer, what should I make of this forced slant stepping on our abilities, skills, and lifestyles? Why am I not allowed to embrace my creative side and ask the questions that beg: What if? The moment that my imagination takes flight into the uncharted territories of the cosmos, I must censor myself. I must refrain from my innate calling as a creative spirit.

Only when an agenda is corrupt and harmful must all other competition to it be silenced. No questions. No free-thought. No imagination.

Why? Why do a few believe that they outweigh the many? What happened to the imagination?

Here at Undawnted, imagination is fearless and will ask questions of the cultural captains: what happened that would allow you to believe you are more important in my creative life than I am? Why would you believe you are better than the rest of us? Why must we believe what you believe? Why must I attend, pray, and be a disciple at your church?

Are those not fair questions to ask? I feel that this elite mindset is of: do as you are told. Period. Another form of corporate toxicity demands more from me than it gives in return.

That leads into: why is there a conservatorship being placed on the creative world? When did I sign that legal contract? Is it in the vague Terms of Service of the services you don't provide anymore when you turned your back on freedom of speech? Because I certainly have not been evaluated in a court of law as incompetent to stand trial.

Why can I not tell people to research the findings of Dr. Naomi Wolf (Ph.D.), Dr. Robert Malone (M.D. and inventor of the MRNA technology), Dr. Peter McCullough (M.D.), VAERS reporting, or even Edward Dowd? Is the establishment afraid of real data?

When someone in a position of leadership be it government, corporate, education, or think tank does everything in his or her power to stifle creativity, shut down dissent, and make you censor yourself, then how can our culture have imagination?

One way. One mind... sounds more like the Borg to me, than a democracy.

When it comes down to it, we aren't being respected as adults. So if you are wondering why I speak out, this factor is high on the list. Are these governments, corporations, institutions, or think tanks respecting you if you have to censor yourself in order to appease their short-sided agenda?

What is the Agenda? The World Economic Forums' Great Reset that plunges the world into an economic depression? Do we really want that nonsense? I for one did not elect Klaus Schwab into office. Did you?

So, creative community of artists, writers, filmmakers, and musicians, do you need someone to make your decisions for you? Or, are you a capable, cogent adult that abides by the laws of the United States?

Because "creative" does not have the word: we, in it; but the letters do spell: I. As well, "imagination" does not have the word: we, in it; but the letters do spell: I. Those words embody the artful presence of individuality. The arts cannot and should not be dictated by a collective. That is why imagination is fearless because this journey is for the courageous individual.

Then why are we doing this? So, find your courage, individuate, and start asking questions.

Creative courage is contagious!

Have a great and insightful day.

The Beginning of the Legacy Universe is All in the Mythology

One of the first fiction narratives in my Legacy Universe is The Story of Vigdis and Adalbrandir.

What if you knew the true story of the gods and how these immortals came to Earth? Who would you tell?

Vigdis discovered the reality of the ancient gods. She and her mortal lover, Adal, confronted the pantheon of liars, murderers, and thieves.

This story is the mythological tale of how Vigdis and Adal became twin swords in the care of their son, Jacobous for an eternity.

I begin this journey in January 2022. I have the mythology mapped out. I know how it's supposed to go, but do I write the narrative like a modern-day tale, or write it like I was Homer?

Maybe a little of both?

I will let Vigdis and Adal tell me how they would like to be immortalized in script.

After all, it is their story.

Have a great and wonderful day.

Are Any of My Readers Under Quarantine?

I know that the Wuhan Coronavirus has shut down areas of the world.

So some people may only have online websites for entertainment and human contact. If would like me to entertain you with daily postings, you can let me know via my Facebook page, by Liking or commenting on this article's post... or just have all your online friends jack up my stats and I will get the message.

My hard drive died and I lost three nearly complete novels. I am going to start from the beginning and write them all over again. I cannot guarantee senility as I rewrite scenes, but you can at least follow my writings like a weird soap opera.

If you are game, then so am I.

I am disabled by illness so self quarantine is a daily occurrence for me and has been since 2007. Good thing, I am an introvert who loves cats, or this situation could have gone wrong years ago. Even with brain inflammation, I am still sane.

Crazy to boot, but sane nonetheless.

Who's up for a good story? 300 to 2000 words a day? I may even ask for audience participation... you never know.

Let me know. I'll keep you entertained so you don't have to worry so much. Believe me, I understand.

Time Again for Winter Frost Seasonal Reads

Undawnted's seasonal reads program turns the calendar over to December once more and that means it's time for Winter Frost.

Cold nights sitting by the roaring fireplace with hot cocoa in hand is what the chill of winter's frost brings us.

The holidays are being celebrated with parties. Carolers make their rounds through neighborhoods, People shop at the local businesses for gifts. Children have sugar plums dancing in their heads.

What to do on those long winter's nights? But read, of course!

Looking Ahead to 2019

There are still housekeeping items to get through before the new year.

Still 2019 looms. What should I focus on? Poetry? Recipes? Fiction? I am still debating.

This year was complicated by technical issues. I fixed the problems. The site is up and running again, but I feel out of my rhythm.  That doesn't help.

So I guess 2019 is when I get my groove back?

I am searching inside myself for that next character I will fall in love with and want to write about. Funny thing about love. She loves me; she loves me knot.

Maybe I it is not a character I need to fall in love with, perhaps it is taking the time to fall back in love with myself.

That is where all the creativity springs from and this year has been rougher than others in the recent past. Hope. Friendship. Fear. Betrayal. Loss. Wunderlust.

Life is stranger than fiction... mine seems to write itself.

What are your plans for 2019?
