Summer Time Seasonal Reads 2022

When summer rolls around, we are ready to sit by the pool with an iced tea. A book is worth all the rays of the sun. Summer is about finding time for yourself, to relax.

The days are longer. The nights are warm. Summer is the fantasy season of our lives.

Out by the water, what to do? Read with your sunglasses on, of course!

Time Again for Winter Frost Seasonal Reads

Undawnted's seasonal reads program turns the calendar over to December once more and that means it's time for Winter Frost.

Cold nights sitting by the roaring fireplace with hot cocoa in hand is what the chill of winter's frost brings us.

The holidays are being celebrated with parties. Carolers make their rounds through neighborhoods, People shop at the local businesses for gifts. Children have sugar plums dancing in their heads.

What to do on those long winter's nights? But read, of course!

A Brief Discourse in Myths and Legends of Writing and Resources

"All the stories have been told!"
~the oldest known suicide note from a writer

I learned a small stone tablet lamented words similar to the above quote was found by archeologists when I studied literature at the college level. Was the instructor joking? Who knows? But the story still holds water, just read what scholars have discovered about Shakespeare.

According to a New York Times article, Plagiarism Software Unveils a New Source for 11 of Shakespeare’s Plays, Shakespeare used an earlier source study for helping to mold his characters and plays:
The findings were made by Dennis McCarthy and June Schlueter, who describe them in a book to be published next week by the academic press D. S. Brewer and the British Library. The authors are not suggesting that Shakespeare plagiarized but rather that he read and was inspired by a manuscript titled “A Brief Discourse of Rebellion and Rebels,” written in the late 1500s by George North, a minor figure in the court of Queen Elizabeth, who served as an ambassador to Sweden.
For any new writer, this information may seem like a blessing and a curse.

Have all the stories already been told?

What writers can learn from historical data, sources, and books is that story inspiration can manifest from the unlikeliest of places. Research into the past is not for naught and should be encouraged.

My fiction and poetry writings here on Undawnted are inspired by a combination of Shakespearean dramas and comedies, Joseph Campbell's comparative mythology and the hero's journey, and Jane Austen's tenets of good matchmaking as well as her realism perspective in her social commentary.

Just like Shakespeare, modern writers can be influenced and inspired by earlier works of fiction and nonfiction alike. A seasoned writer knows how to balance the past with the present to make the most of the future. Writing should entertain and inspire others in turn.

What book or author has inspired you?

Have a great and wonderful day!

Move Over Recipes!

Nonfiction was getting crowded.

With the help of Sonoran Dawn Studios, publishing company, I revised the Lulu Author Spotlight to accommodate another section. So the Nonfiction essays are listed together. Food and home recipes are now in the section labeled: Recipes

That is much better. Less clutter means more fun.

Finding the Right Fit

Everyone goes through it... this shirt is too big, my pants are too tight. These sneakers shrunk in the wash.

Out with the old and in with the new.

That is how I feel about my writing. What can I do better next time? What should I add? What should I delete?

The next step is always about bettering yourself at a given task.  So I have been thinking about what I should accomplish in 2017.  Should I do more or less of one type of writing? Fiction? Nonfiction? Poetry?

I am still deciding, but that is half the fun. I figured I would have my schedule out in December sometime.

Even I cannot wait to see what is in store for the New Year.

I sure do hope it fits!

Have a great and wonderful day.

Hot in the City Tonight

The last Friday in July is a cooker.

Pressure cooker? The heat feels like it. In the pull of Mother Nature to bring in the Monsoon to the Sonoran Desert, she has been really cooking our biscuits. Fry me, isle five.

I mean, I am a desert rat, but from mid-June on the heat has been ridiculous. Then add the geoengineering on top of our already drought ridden region and bam! instant wildfire season. Just insane.

So I am inside during the day and star gazing in the middle of the night.

It's hot in the city on a Friday night. Nothing to watch on the television so I will again be without entertainment for the entire weekend. I will have to entertain myself.

That means: more poetry and fiction novels on the way! First I will be sure to write up some nonfiction booklets and research essays. Got to keep the variety up.

If I get bored, then I know my audience is too. We cannot have that! So I am dialing up the fearless imagination to the next level.

Then I am going to take a nap... speaking of which. Off I go until this evening!

Have a great and wonderful day!

The Mother of All Reinvention

In the last few years, Undawnted has grown and matured.

The website now focuses on poetry and writing while art, design, and publishing have been given their own homes online. That freedom has defined and extended my personal universe and Undawnted has reaped the benefits of that Big Bang.

Soon, the poetry and writing that graced this blog and writing portfolios will be published in their own collections. Poetry has already been published in third party anthologies and other websites. So publishing our own chapbooks and novels is a natural progression.

I hope you have enjoyed Undawnted's claim to fame. Stay tuned for more exciting developments. Here imagination is fearless.

Have a great and wonderful day!

Expanding Food and Recipes

A funny thing happened when I was cleaning the house today: I had to make more laundry soap to do a load of towels.

That situation prompted me to add the series: The Healthy Home Project to the Food and Recipes section of Nonfiction

People, especially Environmental Illness patients, are looking for natural, healthy, and nontoxic solutions to home care. From laundry soap, rinse agents, and house cleaners, I hope to bring to my readers what I personally have created and use in my own life.

I hope you enjoy the health.

Have a great and wonderful day!

War on Women is Now a Topic for Discussion

I have been at it again!

With current attitudes and recent commentary about women's rights, health, and safety, I am now working on a research essay called: War on Women. I take a look at the different arguments and angles about women's rights in our society.

The war on women has been a religious and societal attack for over 100 years. Probably closer to 4 to 5 thousand years have women had to submit to patriarchal misinformation and disinformation about what is and is not "feminine."

When feminism brought women's issues to the forefront of cultural discussion, politics hijacked the message. Wouldn't you like to get back to what being a woman is really about?

See more about my published and upcoming critical essays in the Nonfiction section. For more about topics like War on Women, please see our Social Constructs page.

Red, White, and Blue Cover Art for Flag Day

How appropriate for Flag Day!

My new book will be out on Monday, June 20th. History, politics, and civic duty all rolled into one researched essay....

To Be or... Just Give Us a Minute

While the Sonoran Desert hit 115 degrees this past weekend, I have been busy inside.

I organized within sections, especially the Nonfiction page. Now Fiction, Nonfiction, and Poetry have the same flow to them. Choose a link and go to a page with an original book cover and description.

I removed the Writing Portfolios and other sample poetry and writings. Those items will be placed in their own chapbooks instead. It may take awhile before these poems and stories are available again, but they will be in a cleaner, nicer form.

So don't fret!

Undawnted is dedicated to artistic expression through reading, writing, and publication.

See our Schedule of publications on the Sonoran Dawn Studios website. We have many, many new and exciting books coming your way. Most of these publications are FREE. Some for a limited time so make sure to download your favorites when they are re-available!

Thank you!

Have a great and wonderful day!

Focusing on the Writing

Undawnted has made a couple of changes.

This site will house our book covers, storyboards and designs, as well as writing portfolios. Digital art and commercial book covers for sale will be published at our Sonoran Dawn Studios. We love writing and world building so Undawnted will focus on these areas.

Since topics have been delegated around, Undawnted will do blog updates related to this site and our new mission to focus on writing on Tuesdays, Wesdnesdays, and Thursdays. Holidays and special events not withstanding, of course.

More exciting announcements are coming in the future, so please visit often! As well as make sure to Like our Facebook page and visit Sonoran Dawn Studios.  Thank you!

Have a great and wonderful day!

Undawnted added the Press Paquet link to our website.

Now links for biographies, bibliographies, and social media will be housed there.

Non Fiction Update

I updated the Non Fiction page.

Apples to Oranges is now represented as well as Believe Feel Know Do It. Complete opposites of each other as one is a philosophical view of the universe and the other is a recipe/storytelling book.

I brainstorm and everything appears to be on track.

2016 will see the culmination of many new projects. Here's to a great year!

TGI... what? It Can't Be Friday Already

This week has whizzed by.

I went to the grocery store, i've done my online shopping.  I did go into one store extra and got sick. There must be mold damage in that store. Reactions, breathing issues, and sinus bleeding all par for the course with sick building syndrome caused by water damage and mold.

Isn't that great? My super power is a bloody nose!

I have been thoroughly exhausted.  I have slept and taken naps all week long. So, no, no writing has been accomplished in the realm of fiction. Nonfiction aka journalism, writing has been sparse but doable.

So have fun. I'll write more later. I have to get out trash and then it's beddy by time for me!

It's nice to cook and clean when it's cooler in the nights and mornings.

The Reading Room

On the left, the menu section has a new item: The Reading Room.

Instead of traipsing all over the blog/website for poetry and writing samples, there is a place where these creations will be listed and linked to. The area is empty but not for long. I try and write something every day.

Well I better get back to placing more content on Undawnted. While you are perusing, check out my new Facebook and Authorsden pages!

Have a great and wonderful day!
