Literary, lyrical prose in the form of nautical narrative is: The Jonah Collector.
Inspired by the Rime of the Ancient Mariner, The Jonah Collector offers something new to the seafaring, mermaid, and pirate genres. The tale is about a sea captain whose days are bogged down by regret, stress, and homesickness.
Captain Christopher Houston is a
seafaring man. He lives on the sea. He is the best ship captain in the
world. He is also deceased.
In
this epic tale, we discover that in his youth, Captain Houston
committed a heinous crime. He lied about his age to get onboard a ship
because his father had died. The young man wanted to support his mother
by earning a wage. Unfortunately, he was too inexperienced. He found
himself labeled a Jonah, the weakest link, and forced to walk the
plank.
As his ship sailed away, the
ocean took him down to the Locker. In the Depths, a beautiful mermaid
made him a deal. Captain Houston did not understand the contract that
saved his life, and was later able to nullify the mermaid's evil intent
because he was not of age to consent to such an agreement.
Years
had passed since his encounter. Something inside of him stirred. He
knew that his youthful mistake was about to catch up with his present.
Unbeknownst to him, the
mermaid, Aetheshella, devised a scheme to lure Christopher back to her
through fate. She went after his son. Now, Captain Houston has a choice:
save his son or himself.
Will he be the next victim of The Jonah Collector?

The world is filled with amazing things, if we will just stop a moment and take notice. In this vast universe, we are but tiny individuals, filled with awe and amazement. From reflections on first love, to reflections on growing old. The poems within these pages express a lifetime of unique reflections in Small Wonders.
_____
Interview
Undawnted's DL Mullan sat down and interviewed fellow poet, Kaye Lynne Booth about her poetry collection, Small Wonders.
What made you decide to write a poetry book?
Small Wonders is an accumulation of a lifetime of
poetry. I have written poetry since I was a young girl, and here and there,
I’ve had a few published over the years. But, poetry is a form of writing which
I indulge in because it is fun, and although I enjoy sharing my poems, I never
really looked at it like it was something to make money off of. But when I saw
the enthusiasm rise for the Poetry Treasures books, which WordCrafter Press published
each year, I decided that I had enough poems that were sitting around gathering
virtual dust to publish a collection and share them with the world, for better
or worse.
Why the theme "Small Wonders"?
What was the inspiration?
Poems are the “small wonders” of the
literary world. They help people see things in new and different ways. They
allow the poet to pour out his or her heart in a way that expresses exactly how
they feel in such a way as to create an image that others can relate to and
understand.
Is writing poetry an innate skill, or did you
have to develop it? Doyou have your own
style? Or, do you like writing poetry in the variousstandard forms (haiku, sonnet, etc.)?
As I said, I like to write poetry because it
is fun. I like to play with words, and so, I have fun experimenting with
different forms of poetry. I enjoy writing syllabic poetry to see if I can say
what I wish to say in the correct amount of syllables, and I also enjoy playing
with visual poetry, such as shape poems. In the collection, I’ve included an
entire section of poems I just had fun with.
Do you have a favorite poet? If so, why? How
did this poet inspire you?
A. I am partial to Emily Dickinson, Sidney
Sheldon and Dr. Suess. I believe that much of my poetry carries the sing-song,
rhyming qualities of the two latter. Dickinson, I relate to on a different
level, as she is more somber in her poetry, in both subject and content, and I
think some of my more serious, emotional poems carry that somber quality.
Have you written an epic poetry (Homer)?
Actually, I have written a couple of epic,
or at least semi-epic poems regarding the life and death of my son, but those
are for a very different book. There are a few poems in Small Wonders
which are quite long, but I don’t know that one would call them epic.

It is a sad day when technology becomes such a crutch that a writer has to draw a line in the sand.
Readers as well as other writers are questioning the usage of applications and programs that take control away from human integrity.
For those readers in our audience who are interested in this topic, Undawnted does not utilize artificial intelligence, or A.I. in the creation of the art, poetry, or prose. If other writers wish to use this technology, that is for them to decide and let the readers know. As for the artist, author, and audio/visual creator, DL Mullan, she does not use products besides grammar and spell check applications.
Rest assured that when you purchase a chapbook, book, art item, you are buying a human created product from history, mythology, human imagination/ingenuity, and the craft of storytelling.
Thank you for your continued support,

This Long Form Poem describes life in the desert southwest during monsoon season. As the Sonoran Desert braces for another season of torrential rains, blowing dust, and microbursts, humans and creatures alike do anything to find shelter.
"A long meditative poem that soothes the soul."
"You can hear the rain as you read along."
The Rain is an epic poem that follows the friendship of a woman and a grasshopper, who lives in her yard.
_____
Long Form Poetry
There are times when one page cannot express the creative thought with
enough precision that a poet needs to explore the idea further. Poets
are then obliged to write until the story is complete, while adhering to their rhyme-scheme. Long Form Poems like
the Iliad have been a favorite for centuries, and here are Undawnted's versions to entice the mind and tickle the senses.
As a creator, I want to produce as much of my own content as I can. There are instances where that idea becomes impossible. Instrumentals is one of those current challenges.
I can write, craft, and publish my cover art, stories, and websites, but sometimes even a creator needs a helping hand. Since I would like to produce meaningful and engaging book trailers and presentations for my Undawnted Channel on YouTube(Please subscribe!), I have endeavored to use other musician's instrumentals to assist me.
I have read numerous license agreements, and have purchased some music that you have already heard. Still, the royalty and copyright issues are murky at best. You can use X song if you follow these guidelines, royalty free. Yes, but I can use them for my commercial, known as a book trailer?
The next challenge is: who is being paid for the music? The three songs I have bought so far were paid to one person, not the artist who created the song. So, I went on a fact finding mission to cut out the middleman. I emailed a couple of musicians on a site to see what royalty free means to them, and do I need to buy a lifetime license from them? Important questions.
In the coming years, I may have to sit down and write a few songs on the computer. Yes, I have written songs in the past. With a grandfather who was a piano tuner and mover, as well as a jazz pianist, music runs in my veins. I spent a year in competitive orchestra and two years in band, playing the violin. When a string instrument was unfavorable to playing in a high school marching band, I opted for four years of choir.
Until my health supports more activity besides editing, reading, and writing, I will continue to be bounced around, uncertain as to how I can use "royalty free music." I rather purchase from the creator to ensure a legal license than using middlemen. I hope that the prices are within my budget.
I do not want to cheat anyone, but I also like to eat.
What it comes down to is the fine print. What does it actually say versus how I am interpreting it?
With mini trailers, book prevues, and presentations, there is more to come this season. We offer our Silent Movie section, if you don't want to be disturbed at work or home. There is a growing collection of videos with music, as well as music and narration.
When summer rolls around, we are ready to sit by the pool with an iced tea. A book is worth all the rays of the sun. Summer is about finding time for yourself, to relax. The days are longer. The nights are warm. Summer is the fantasy season of our lives.
Out by the water, what to do? Read with your sunglasses on, of course!

From March 1st to May 31st, we began an adventure in our exclusive Legacy Universe. We read the adventures of Roben Hode, in Hode: The Legend Lives Again, a modern day Robin Hood. Next, we learned that you cannot cross the gods in The Story of Vigdis and Adalbrandir. Then, Fearless Files discovered other dimensions in The Reality Hackers.
Undawnted's Creative Tribe honored the Hero's Journey. We became the characters. We were our own heroes. With both those themes in hand, we brought the stories to life!
During it all, we delved deep into mystical magical, and mysterious poetry of Galactic Ride and Eclipse.
Our next seasonal reads will begin on June 1st.

After writing this Rime of the Ancient Mariner/dark mermaid inspired short story for a writing prompt, The Jonah Collector was edited for a future release.
Undawnted was set to publish this lyrical prose piece this summer until a publisher's call for submissions asked for a seafaring narrative. After formatting the document, the story was read through to see if further editing was necessary. Since the creative write received no corrections, it was deemed ready for another life.
Therefore, The Jonah Collector was removed from rotation and submitted to this new anthology. We wanted to update our readership about this change, especially for those readers who were excited about this imaginative piece. In the coming weeks, DL Mullan will be notified if The Jonah Collector was accepted, and Undawnted will let our audience know the future of this tale.
We hope no matter if The Jonah Collector is published by an anthology or by Ms. Mullan that Fearless Philes will share in our excitement.
During the release of The Reality Hackers novelette, May 23, 2023, Undawnted opened our Special Editions Store.

Science fiction and hard science fans will love that DL Mullan brings more than her imagination to her writing. This ten time novelist also does her research. There is more than meets the eye with her latest novelette:
The Reality Hackers is one of those once-in-a-lifetime stories that
combines complex ideas rather seamlessly. From quantum reality,
spirituality, science fact, and genealogy, this short story is not only a
good genre but much of the narrative is based on fact as well as
personal experience. There is plenty of reality in The Reality Hackers
that has far-reaching implications in our daily lives.
As part of
my Legacy Universe on Undawnted, I incorporate my family’s genealogy
into my creative writings. John and Elleanor Chisum were real people and
my ancestors from the 1700s. Gillespie and Isham (pronounced: EYE-som)
are family surnames as well. I enjoy immortalizing my pedigree in my
stories because I like how this aspect grounds the spiritual and fantasy
elements of the material world.
Personal experience along with
science and military facts also helps to keep this story established in
the realm of possibility. For example, the explosion and implosion
described at the beginning of the story are a real-life scene that I had
witnessed in the Sonoran Desert on the outskirts of Phoenix, Arizona
circa 2005. From what has been explained to me by a private government
contractor, this device is next generation military technology. Another researcher confirmed that the phrase: Special Access Project is real.
These projects are under Black Operations Budgets and managed by private
military and industry contractors. There is little Congressional or
Presidential oversight of these programs, which makes them
unconstitutional and therefore illegal to fund and operate, yet many
exist under these conditions.
Organic consciousness appears in
this genre tale through the Intelligence Community’s released support
documentation. The Central Intelligence Agency, along with the Monroe Institute of Applied Sciences, experimented with human consciousness
known as the “Analysis and Assessment of Gateway Process.” The Hall of
Records in the story is really the Akashic Records, which many in the spiritual
community have discovered through various meditative techniques, and
corresponds to the government’s own controlled studies. The Looking
Glass (a phrase used for this story) is a real technology hidden by the government and military that
uses quantum mechanics, consciousness, and the dynamic universe model’s
principles of electromagnetism that fuses intentions, imagination, and
the human brain to create, maintain, and influence reality. The Looking Glass is based on a black cube that only a few people have ever seen and in 2012
stopped working, according to a private government contractor who once
held it. As a consequence, we are living in a convergence of realities
due to the overuse and abuse of consciousness processes and that
predictive technology.
There is more to these hidden mechanisms
than is observed by the average person. For instance, the Gateway Process is technical psychological jargon for quantum reality. A quantum computer is a device that every human owns. The brain we possess is
that subatomic manipulator. In The Reality Hackers, the characters learn
that if you believe in a concept, that a person’s intentions and
imagination can make that notion real (Law of Manifestation/Attraction). Except the quantum assertions,
discussed as fiction, are indeed based on scientific fact. You can
change your stars, as the movies say, and manifest your destiny through
your unconscious mind, conscious thoughts, emotions, and living imagination that creates your overall frequency. Trust the science.
Actually, trust yourself. The Reality Hackers is so much more
than a good novelette; it’s a guide to living your best intentions.
With a firm foundation in the material world through genealogy, military
programs, intelligence experiments, quantum physics, and spiritual principles, this
narrative is a timeless tale of enduring love, good winning over evil,
and the power of the human mind. In decades to come, our ideas about
life may change, but The Reality Hackers’ lessons in believing,
intending, and imagining a positive future through the use of our
personal quantum computers will remain science fact.
Purchase your copy of The Reality Hackers on May 23, 2023, and discover a world that exists in your present reality. Then ask yourself: who is hacking your reality? Is it who teaches you? Informs you? Protects you? Is elected by you?
You may be unpleasantly surprised.
