Extra Extra! The Descent is a Horrorific Good Read

Genre poetry, especially The Descent's: darker breed of poetry, is often overlooked by poetry lovers. This Autumn Cider Seasonal Reads staple here on Undawnted is a great way to vibe with the change of seasons.

On Writing to be Read's Treasuring Poetry column by Robbie Cheadle, she not only delves into my Edgar Allan Poe, Emily Dickinson, paranormal inspired chapbook, but she enjoyed it as well.

Treasuring Poetry, 2024: Introducing the poetry of DL Mullan and a review is available to read. In this interview, I discuss my inspiration and journey into writing poetry. The classics are a beautiful influence and help me ground my creative pieces. My interview also exhibits three poems from other chapbooks. Transcendence is in my upcoming Impetus. The Flower Within lives in Effloresce, which is being expanded for a future release. Weather and Asymptote reside in Phantastic.

I hope poetry lovers read my upcoming chapbooks as I re-release these poetry books from one platform onto another. This year, I plan on publishing at least two chapbooks, Eclipse being one of them. I cannot wait to share my lyrical visions with an expanded audience.

My Long Form Poetry will be published in an upcoming collection, but most individual poems are available in my Special Editions Store.

Thanks again, Robbie Cheadle, for your kindness and review of my poetry.

WordCrafter Blog Tour for Small Wonders

Summary

The world is filled with amazing things, if we will just stop a moment and take notice. In this vast universe, we are but tiny individuals, filled with awe and amazement. From reflections on first love, to reflections on growing old. The poems within these pages express a lifetime of unique reflections in Small Wonders.

_____

Interview

Undawnted's DL Mullan sat down and interviewed fellow poet, Kaye Lynne Booth about her poetry collection, Small Wonders.

What made you decide to write a poetry book?

Small Wonders is an accumulation of a lifetime of poetry. I have written poetry since I was a young girl, and here and there, I’ve had a few published over the years. But, poetry is a form of writing which I indulge in because it is fun, and although I enjoy sharing my poems, I never really looked at it like it was something to make money off of. But when I saw the enthusiasm rise for the Poetry Treasures books, which WordCrafter Press published each year, I decided that I had enough poems that were sitting around gathering virtual dust to publish a collection and share them with the world, for better or worse.

Why the theme "Small Wonders"? What was the inspiration?

Poems are the “small wonders” of the literary world. They help people see things in new and different ways. They allow the poet to pour out his or her heart in a way that expresses exactly how they feel in such a way as to create an image that others can relate to and understand.

Is writing poetry an innate skill, or did you have to develop it? Do you have your own style? Or, do you like writing poetry in the various standard forms (haiku, sonnet, etc.)?

As I said, I like to write poetry because it is fun. I like to play with words, and so, I have fun experimenting with different forms of poetry. I enjoy writing syllabic poetry to see if I can say what I wish to say in the correct amount of syllables, and I also enjoy playing with visual poetry, such as shape poems. In the collection, I’ve included an entire section of poems I just had fun with.

Do you have a favorite poet? If so, why? How did this poet inspire you?

A. I am partial to Emily Dickinson, Sidney Sheldon and Dr. Suess. I believe that much of my poetry carries the sing-song, rhyming qualities of the two latter. Dickinson, I relate to on a different level, as she is more somber in her poetry, in both subject and content, and I think some of my more serious, emotional poems carry that somber quality.

Have you written an epic poetry (Homer)?

Actually, I have written a couple of epic, or at least semi-epic poems regarding the life and death of my son, but those are for a very different book. There are a few poems in Small Wonders which are quite long, but I don’t know that one would call them epic.

Additions and Updates to Our Poetry Sections

Undawnted has been doing some spring-cleaning, as it were, to our poetry line.

We are in the process of adding chapbooks like Supernatural Archaeology, and some others whose titles are tentative, but soon to be released on this site. In the Long Form poetry section, we have some great ideas for each seasonal reads. We have begun the process with the release of our Long Form poem: Galactic Ride in March 2022, and the upcoming chapbook release of Eclipse in May 2022. More goodies will be uploaded soon to our Chapbook section. Our goal is to have a long-form poem and chapbook for every month of the year.

After a large catalog of poetry has been published, then in November 2024, we will release: Oracle. This chapbook will celebrate 30 years of award- winning/level poetry from our own rhymer, DL Mullan.

She believes poetry is for everyone. Her poems are easy to read and digest. The meaning is what the reader brings to the words, but also Ms. Mullan conveys her own thoughts and feelings into the mix.

In the coming weeks and months, you will see this section change with exciting and even more provocative writings. Ms. Mullan challenges herself on every level to bring her audience the best writing and culture of the age. From poetry, prose, and digital art, there is no comparison to her commitment to the tangible legacy she is creating before your very eyes.

You can have curated... or you can have creative. Undawnted- where the imagination is fearless

Have a great and wonderful day.

31 Days of Halloween, Breathe: A Darker Breed of Poetry

To continue our Halloween theme, My Poetry Forum is hosting some of my poems from the horror chapbook, The Descent: a darker breed of poetry.

This chapbook houses "a darker breed of poetry." Plus new poetry that has yet to be seen by the general public.

"As a genre poet myself, I have to tell you how much I enjoyed this."

"The poem [Breathe} is as scrumptious and sensual as it is dark and deep."

"This is first for me. I have never read genre poetry before. I love it. Hugely imaginative and utterly unique..."

Breathe is the selection for this evening. I hope you enjoy this subtle but dark piece of creative writing.

Please remember to leave me feedback in the form of a review. If you liked the poem a lot, then please nominate the poem. It helps in the rankings.

Have a great and scary day!

WordCrafter Blog Tour, Robbie Cheadle's Poetry Collection: Behind Closed Doors Review

Poetry is a difficult craft to mold one's own ideas into as a creative process. Words are often written, even spoken, out of context with idioms, axioms, metaphors, and cliches to add further complications. Poetry is even more challenging than grammar when expected to follow certain rhyme schemes or cadences.

Behind Closed Doors is a poetry book that marries the conventional with the creative. The poems are stream of consciousness illustrations of life, love, and remembrance. Unusual thoughts that show us the world we live in through another person's point of view, but is that so unusual? Or, is the uncommon often seen in the simple and direct in times of uncertainty?

Everyday life and the people we associate ourselves with are how we see ourselves and the outside world. In the section on the lockdowns, that is where Ms. Cheadle deepened her reach into our emotions. With the poem "No Contact," she expressed her feelings as a ghost with being insubstantial and unreal. This exhibited depth and resonance from which her creativity can only grow and take her writing to the next level of expression.

If you like to know more about Ms. Cheadle and her creative works, please check out the rest of the Blog Tour at Writing to be Read as well as her Youtube channel:

Behind Closed Doors, a collection of unusual poems

What goes on behind closed doors: in the boardroom, after death, in the home, during lockdown, and in nature? This collection of poems, ranging from rhyming verse to twisted nursery rhymes, captures the emotions and thoughts people hide behind the masks they present to the world.

What thoughts are hidden

Behind her immobile face

Quite expressionless

Eyes cold and indifferent

Scrutinising me – hawk like

This book includes some of Robbie Cheadle’s spectacular fondant art and cakes.

Moving Away from Lulu and Other Fee-Based Platforms

I have been trying to publish my chapbooks and other stories, but fee based platforms have gotten their rules and polices in the way.

That is quite disconcerting. All I want to do is publish my poetry and novels. I didn't believe such actions warranted an IRS form and forced revenue edict. I am disabled. I am not going to make enough to pay taxes on for years.

I am not in the biz to make a landslide. I love to entertain. That's what I do in the creative writing field. I am too ill for book tours or anything else. It's to keep my mind busy while I am stuck most days in bed (22+ hours, most of that is zzzz).

I have loads of experience in various fields as well as a Masters degree in Teaching and Learning with Technology. My website is my stage and my classroom. Anyone who ventures here will receive a first rate creative writing, literature, mythology, and arts education.

So I find the demands of corporations and the IRS just a little comical to say the least. I will have to find a new way of communicating myself to my audience.

I'm taking suggestions.

Habitue did drop today. If you would like a copy, then let me know via my social media page on Facebook and Twitter where this article will be posted. It's a short chapbook with a handful of poems about habit forming behaviors.

Maybe make a donation of a few bucks to help me with my technology expenses? I do everything from scratch these days. So every penny is appreciated. I take Paypal. Maybe that will work...

See, I am still working out the rough patches.

Being a writer should not take a corporate intervention or demands of the IRS, I should be allowed to be the adult I am. I file my taxes as appropriate. I can do that with a simple printout of what I made between two dates as already available via the Lulu software in my account settings.

I think it's time to rethink the writing business because it's no business of anyone's except my own.

If the IRS disagrees, then maybe it is time to abolish the IRS.

Have a great and wonderful day.

Submissions in the Round

Last year I did not submit as many poems to third party sites as I usually do.

Read Earth Changes II
My 2020 goal for submissions was to be more active. I have great poetry and I would like readers to experience my brand of rhyme, free verse, and metaphor. I have been writing for decades, with many positive reviews and critical acclaim.

This seasonal cycle, I would like to expand my audience who may think that poetry is not for them. Then, you have not read my poetry. I write scientific, science fiction, imaginative, and emotive based poems that are not difficult to understand, but will leave an indelible mark on the reader.

I am publishing a few established poems that I have placed in my chapbooks on a few forums online. So if you would like to read some of my poems and leave a review, then please subscribe to Undawnted's YouTube Channel.

I also write poetry for a commission.

Have a great and wonderful day.
