About DL Mullan

The award-winning artist and poet, DL Mullan is a true Renaissance woman. From the ashes of a disabling illness, Ms. Mullan rose and metamorphosed into a beautiful creative Phoenix. Her reach is international through political discourse, social commentary, creative nonfiction, imaginative poetry, abstract fine art, book cover designs, online events, writer's workshops, and researched / investigative journalism just to name a few of her indelible influences even beyond the confines of social media. She challenges the status quo. She questions the absurd. She sees the trends and waits for history to catch up to her discernment.

She has become Undawnted... Undawnted is where the imagination is unpredictable, insatiable, and undeniably... unleashed.

The Descent is Featured in Nocturnal Redemption

I like to mix reality and genres together in my fiction writing, but this time, I made the name of my horror chapbook into a seedy bar, The Descent:

"Ryan exhaled what was and readied herself for what was meant to be. Solitary in the night, she stood outside another seedy establishment but this time the destination was for her personal research. With a deep inhalation of courage, Ryan entered the dive bar.

The Descent was another local hang out for the fringe of society. The customers wore black leather, multicolored hair, large tattoos, and abundant piercings. She often felt underdressed in her jean pants and jacket..."

If you are into the gritter side of poetry, please check out my chapbook, The Descent: a darker breed of poetry.

Have a great and wonderful day!

Narrowing Down the Contents

The contents of the upcoming poetry book: Effloresce are being worked on at this moment!

With a newly revised cover, Effloresce is shaping up to be more than a book themed on nature, but a powerhouse of imagery, philosophy, and observation with some politics thrown in. The environment is not about carbon dioxide, it's about how we respect the natural flow of the Earth's processes.

Until we can get our act together to detoxify our planet, we will have to educate others on the real injustices we face... not the made up ones for the sake of funding and political points.

Effloresce has a wonderful mix of poetry styles and has three sections.

Visit the book's page, Effloresce, to see if your favorite poems will make the cut.

The First Place Gold Winner Is...

This winter season I have lost two of my outdoor felines. Good friends of mine who have been in my life since my family abandoned me in early spring of 2011.

Chaun Elizabeth
A Bombay, Chaun Elizabeth was quick to become my friend if I had food or not. An orange tabby, Jimmy James discovered me a few short weeks later and couldn't help but be my friend. I love them both very dearly. Friends are friends. It does not matter if they walk on two legs or four. I appreciated their kind and gentle souls.

I finally came to grips with them missing in the past week. As Chaun (pronounced Shawn) disappeared at the beginning of March. She was my guard cat. She was fearlessly loyal and protective of me. She never missed a meal. James would come in and out. He would take vacations but when Chaun who rarely missed a moment with me did for over a week; I knew my friends were lost to the elements.

As a tribute, i wrote the poem: All I Have to Give. The poem was my way of dealing with another set of losses in my life. Poetry is how I transform negative emotions into positive action.

It doesn't mean, it doesn't hurt any less. I hurt. I cry. I want my cats returned to me.
Jimmy James

Until then, I entered the poem into a contest, which I won. I very much appreciate the vote of confidence from the anonymous judges.

So a huge Thank You goes out to Bonnie Jennings who organized the contest. The other poems entered were just as worthy and worth a read. I hope you visit the source link below.

To Chaun and James, I hope you are soaring wherever you are and will come visit me again. Thank you so much for your companionship. You are wonderful examples of service cats. I appreciate your time and patience with me.

Good-bye, my friends, may you always be remembered in verse.

Chapbook Page Updated

I took some time and divided up the chapbooks into their own singular pages. So I could add the book covers in a large form too!

I have also uploaded two new chapbooks and pushed back a couple others. Now the time line makes a little more sense.

Reiteration received a polished book cover. The art is now dynamic. This chapbook will be my 30th year anniversary of being a published poet, but it will not happen until 2023.

An extra few years means more poetry to be added!

So have fun on the Chapbooks page of Poetry

Have a great and wonderful day!

Poetry Book Debut in September

The Descent will be released by Sonoran Dawn Studios on September 16th.

I am really excited about publishing my poetry. I hope you enjoy my creativity as much as I enjoyed created the book and its contents.

Some acclaim from readers of my poetry:
"Not usually a poetry fan but someone here recommended I check this book out and I am so glad I did! Wow you are very good - the poems are intelligent, understandable and yet fanatstic! Truly - you are gifted in this arena! My favorites so far... "Upon Reading Edgar Allen Poe and Revenge."
Both the mentioned poems are in this collection.

Have a great and wonderful day!

The Mother of All Reinvention

In the last few years, Undawnted has grown and matured.

The website now focuses on poetry and writing while art, design, and publishing have been given their own homes online. That freedom has defined and extended my personal universe and Undawnted has reaped the benefits of that Big Bang.

Soon, the poetry and writing that graced this blog and writing portfolios will be published in their own collections. Poetry has already been published in third party anthologies and other websites. So publishing our own chapbooks and novels is a natural progression.

I hope you have enjoyed Undawnted's claim to fame. Stay tuned for more exciting developments. Here imagination is fearless.

Have a great and wonderful day!

To Be or... Just Give Us a Minute

While the Sonoran Desert hit 115 degrees this past weekend, I have been busy inside.

I organized within sections, especially the Nonfiction page. Now Fiction, Nonfiction, and Poetry have the same flow to them. Choose a link and go to a page with an original book cover and description.

I removed the Writing Portfolios and other sample poetry and writings. Those items will be placed in their own chapbooks instead. It may take awhile before these poems and stories are available again, but they will be in a cleaner, nicer form.

So don't fret!

Undawnted is dedicated to artistic expression through reading, writing, and publication.

See our Schedule of publications on the Sonoran Dawn Studios website. We have many, many new and exciting books coming your way. Most of these publications are FREE. Some for a limited time so make sure to download your favorites when they are re-available!

Thank you!

Have a great and wonderful day!

Focusing on the Writing

Undawnted has made a couple of changes.

This site will house our book covers, storyboards and designs, as well as writing portfolios. Digital art and commercial book covers for sale will be published at our Sonoran Dawn Studios. We love writing and world building so Undawnted will focus on these areas.

Since topics have been delegated around, Undawnted will do blog updates related to this site and our new mission to focus on writing on Tuesdays, Wesdnesdays, and Thursdays. Holidays and special events not withstanding, of course.

More exciting announcements are coming in the future, so please visit often! As well as make sure to Like our Facebook page and visit Sonoran Dawn Studios.  Thank you!

Glenn Frye

I was out ill when I heard the news of Glenn Frye's passing.

The one song I have always loved that Glenn Frye wrote and sang was Desperado. So here's to you:

I hope you and David Bowie are having one epic jam session.

Updates to the Site

After having my migraines, it appears I had a bit of insomnia, so I updated some items here on the blog.

Our Online Chapbooks page now has chapbook images and poems designated to each book.

The section of fiction, Drabbles, Microfiction, and Novelettes, was added with an sample drabble.

I am hoping to add more images so those individuals who save their favorites to Pinterest can do so in the future.

I hope you enjoy the updates!

Have a great and wonderful day!
