Babylon 5, the Lady or the Tiger are Analogies to the Life Decisions We Make

In high school, our class read a short story called: The Lady or The Tiger. I won't  discuss much about the story, but the end. It is not much of a spoiler. The main character is posed with a choice of two doors, One door has a lady behind it. The other one has a tiger.

His decision is either life or death.

The story struck me because that was the end. We, the audience, were not informed by the writer which one of the two doors the character chose.

That pretty much sums up our life choices. When it comes to making a decision, each of us have to weigh our options. Do we pick the door with the lady. Or, do we choose the tiger?

Sometimes we decide to take the lady and really we end up with the tiger.

So what does Babylon 5 have to do with this line of inquiry? Comet TV is replaying the old episodes from start to finish. The third season has just concluded and a day long marathon will commence on December 25th.

One of the most dissatisfying subplots in the whole series is that of the relationship between Susan Ivanova and Marcus Cole. Fan outcry led to the creator and writer of the series, JMS (J. Michael Straczynski) to pen a short story reuniting these two characters. The fans were not amused.

Actually, a good portion of fandom still dislikes the story to this day.

Then I thought of the story from high school: The Lady or The Tiger by Frank R. Stockton. We all have choices. Our decisions affect the world around us. What if... Marcus' sacrifice to save Susan had a significant consequence on the evolution of our species? What if... love is more powerful than death itself?

In the end... why should love be unrequited?

This fan fiction piece delves into the longing, questioning, and confusion caused by expectation, accident, and suicide. Survivor's guilt... how can we go on knowing our love is gone? But does love ever truly leave us? Or do we convince ourselves we are just unworthy of her?

Although I am not blessed with love in this lifetime, I cannot face creativity without the hope of love for someone. That is why I strive to bring love to characters. Why I also wrote this Babylon fanfiction.

Love should win out the day... even ten thousand years later.

I guess it is just the hopeless romantic in me.

Dreams as Inspiration

As a writer, when I have a strange dream, I like to mull it over for awhile to see what inspiration I can glean from it.

Have you ever been chased in your dreams? Have you walked through a park? Benn to a haunted house? Or, befriended a vampire, werewolf, or other supernatural creature?

Dreams are so fun to work with. They give us a window in which to peer into our subconscious hopes and fears. So dreams, even nightmares, have the ability to inspire us to create art, or write poetry.

I like to keep notebooks by my bed in order for me to take notes when needs be.

Has one of your dreams ever inspired you?

Have a great and wonderful day.

Now welcome to my new format.  Please browse around and leave a comment.

It is nice to know in the vastness of the world wide web that writers connect no matter the medium.

Thank you!

The Holiday Reminder

It’s the holidays again
and you are feeling blue
There are no presents
There is no tree
There is nothing around for you
The bitterness is not from the cold outside
but from your endless empty heart
Hopelessness has taken hold inside
Instead of sitting there wishing
for objects that do not matter
Be thankful for what you do have
for it is probably more than most
Look around and invite friends over
and raise such a clatter!
Drink with a merry toast to all
You do not have to have what is material
or need to feel discontent
As long as love and good cheer
is in everything you do everyday
So open your heart with happiness
and brighten the holidays with a smile
All you need is there for the taking
It is real and alive and waiting
but only if you believe in the goodwill
of all the inhabitants of the Earth
It’s not about religion
It’s not about money
It is the idea that we are more
than a shell of flesh and blood
we are so below as above
spirits with an abundance of love
so throw off the yoke of taking
and begin to receive what is yours
The holidays are not about things
It’s about if you care more for others
than what can be purchased at the stores.

Steampunk, Paranormal Romance, and the Age of Alternative History

Awesome.

That is a load of words to say isn't it? I had been reading up on how to write the genre because I have a half done historical novel waiting for a great plot twist.

My novel is more like a Paranormal Romance slash Historical novel, but I wanted to update it.

Low and behold, Steampunk incorporates the supernatural. I can do that.

It is an exciting way to revive an old story and it has opened my mind to possibilities. So much so that the new concept has broadened my understanding of  Blood Oath, Blood War.

And, that's how creativity works.

One creative epiphany leads to another. So Steampunk can revitalize a historical romance and set in motion more crime-drama in my vampire novel.

That is why I love writing. You wake up with doubt and leave with hope.

Have a great and wonderfully spooky day!

Proof, Placebo, and the Earth Effect

My brain is fried. I did too much watching of scientific research videos online. Oopsy!

From quantum physics to comparative mythology to Earthing, I have done it all and boy, am I tired. I didn't realize all these disciplines had opened up and now are talking to each other. I wish there had been more cross collaboration when I was in college.

Well, I did take a lot of classes. I felt that I had broached nearly every subject that was offered until I had to specialize. I remember taking a year off community college in order to take classes I didn't need for my associate degrees before I moved onto my bachelor's degree.

Before I was made ill by my former employer, I was in the middle of attaining three associates and two (at least) certificates. Learning for me is no more difficult than breathing... until my body collapsed under the weight of heavy metal poisoning.

There is nothing fun about gasping to breathe for years.

So when I get excited that I had a good brain day, now you know why. I have spent too many days not having a well functioning brain because of the constant inflammation my body produces because of the toxic overload it possesses.

One thing I did find information about is Earthing. I like energy work. Grounding oneself metaphysically as well as other energy healing modalities are interesting and produce results for me.

I don't want to be broken anymore. I don't have millions of dollars to get me well again, so I have to do it the slow, old fashion way.

With Earthing, all I have to do is find some grass or earth, stand there in my bare feet, and soak up the energy from the ground and sun. That, I can do. That is easy.

This afternoon I went out and stood in some grass coming up in my decorative river rock. I stood.   One of my outdoor cats came to see what I was doing.  James just lounged around as I felt the Earth under my feet.

Funny thing was the inflammation I have been experiencing subsided for all the time I was outside and a half hour after I returned inside. I will keep seeing if this procedure works or not. I am a scientist at heart. I want proof, not placebo.

One thing when I started this journey of self healing is that I wanted to see real results. Results I could pass onto others with MCS/EI/Mold. Knowledge is good. Healing is better. Free is the best, but results are king.

I can't wait for my brain to heal good enough for me to start writing books on my experiences.

Wouldn't success fly in the convention of serious illness? I hope so. I have a lot of people to show that you can hit me, kick me, and beat me down... but I will ALWAYS get back up again...

Don't you feel that way some days too?

Have a great and wonderful night!
