The Review 

Kaye Lynne Booth, Writing to be Read 

Lured into a conflict between two vampires, one a viciously insane vampiric killer who thrives on torturing her, Riley is determined to see Wilhelm stopped at any cost. The other vampire, Julian, is after the same prey, placing them both on the same side, and he is equally determined to keep Riley from harm’s way because they are related. This is book one in Mullan’s Legacy Universe series, and I got the distinct impression that Riley will play an important role in something much bigger in future books.

Mullan doesn’t use dialog tags, which makes it difficult to know who is speaking at times, but probably reads aloud smoother. Perhaps she plans to do audiobook versions in the future. Her characters are larger than life, and you can almost feel Riley’s pain from Mullan’s vivid descriptions. I’m not sure I buy into vampires with governing bodies, as these seem to, but I can accept it for what it is and immerse myself in the world for a time.

An interesting take on the vampiric universe. I give In the Name of Blood Vampires are Relative four quills.

Undawnted Movie Review: The Wrecking Crew

The Wrecking Crew 

Amazon Prime's The Wrecking Crew is a fun, but foul-mouthed, sexually- innuendoed, and massively violent romp. 

It's nostalgic for GenXers who grew up with Lethal Weapon, Die Hard, Beverly Hills Cop, and other high-octane, violent action, cop comedies. 

 

The soundtrack added to the movie's ambiance. Spicy.  

 

If you love buddy movies, then this one is for you.

Trigger Warning  

The film is strange as it casts everyone that is not of Hawaiian descent, except for Jason Momoa, in the leads, as native Hawaiians. There are lots of New Zealanders, though. Another weird point for a movie that makes fun of all things WOKE, it sure is pretty woke: the white police officer (the Hawaiian officers were on vacation?) is an angry idiot and the mega bad guy is a white guy (Danish actor), whose family owned sugar cane farms (slave owner?), and culturally appropriates Japanese culture. 

And his army comprises of all white men.  

So weird.   

Was this movie funded by the CCP? The Yakuza, Japanese, criminal element is used. I ask, because there are more Japanese descendants than Chinese in Hawaii, so wouldn't this alienate the movie's base in the state? Or, was it not to alienate China's culture appetite for movies that politically keeps the brainwashing of their people in place? Just sayin', the Chinese New Year was a background scene... it's so weird. 

Anyway, the Woke ideology hates all things white... except for their cellular phones, attire, motorcycles, homes, electricity, law enforcement, and military veterans. You know, all the comforts of modern society and culture.  

So, interesting how that all works. 

Wink, wink.

The Gist (Spoiler Alert)

If you ignore all the Woke idiocy, because it looks like Amazon is trying to play both sides in the entertainment game, The Wrecking Crew is fun. Two estranged half-brothers meet up after 20 years to solve their father's murder. 

They work through their father figure issues as well as the brotherly ones of anger, hate, jealousy, and abandonment. The duo, James/Jimmy and Jonny, hammer the bad guys and each other until they realize they are more alike than different. The men release their childish misgivings, because working together makes them invincible. 

Just in time for the plot twist. 

In the end, the brothers opt for the $12 million in Cayman Island bank account money than getting justice for Jonny's murdered mother. That seemed like a sexist ending.

The Rating 

I enjoyed this movie. It went through the Hero's Journey for each brother, including saving the damsels in distress. If it weren't for the Woke placements of hate whitey, I would give this film 4.8 stars out of 5. Yet, the politics of hate were embedded into the screenplay. 

If the entertainment industry wants to make the point that minority groups (which are not demographically minorities in any way, if you look at world populations) can carry a film and be successful in "white" cultures, then they also have to respect the culture with which they wish to be successful in. That part is still missing.  

As a move goer, I could give a rat's ass who is in the director's chair, or on the screen as long as you give me a great script, acting, music/soundtrack, editing, and production value. 

When the entertainment industry loses sight of having fun, in order to push a political/social agenda, that's when they lose long-time movie critics like me. 

But the script is near perfection, the dialogue is on point with little straying from the plot. It would have been so much better without the Woke ideology. The acting was great. The profanity was a little much, too much in places. 

Script\editing discrepencies:  

How did the casino building plans get saved from the vehicle bout with the Yakuza? Did Jonny's cousin get all that information from her work at the governor's officer? 

Jonny's wounds heal in record time.  

And, when did the other USB drive get returned? Watch until the end.

Also, suspenseful but not as grim, DL Mullan’s “Kurst,” is one of my favorites in this collection. Set in Salt Pines, a village in Arizona, “between dreamy pine peaks and unfathomable horrors,” the story opens when Karen Kurst leaves her [photojournalist] job to check out the “Kurst inheritance” on the [Tonto] National Forest’s eastern edge. After she encounters Sheriff “Bear” Barrett, who offers her background about her inheritance and [r]eading materials, this story takes readers on a wild—frightening—but fulfilling “ride.”

Book Review:

The Ones that Stayed with Me, by Nurse Sammy, is a poignant set of stories based in the healthcare industry. As a former caretaker who dealt with hospitals, doctors, nurses, and medical insurance for a relative, The Ones Who Stayed with Me is an enduring, loving, and yet at times, heart-breaking, memorable memoir of “Nurse Sammy.” 

In this book, people not familiar with the other side of the desk are initiated into being a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and Registered Nurse (RN). From behavior problems, accidents, and life-threatening injuries, nurses have to deal with patients who are unable to take care of themselves. On the other side of the aisle, nursing staff have to deal with emotional family members, who want to protect their loved ones, but sometimes at the price of taking their feelings of helplessness out on the employees. In the middle of this seesaw, these medical professionals must balance doctors, inspectors and the legal perimeters, which the staff must obey.

Nurses and their staff have to navigate the law, doctors, the elderly and disabled as well as their family members, which is stressful and emotional. At times, it is a thankless task. Still, nurses arrive every day to take care of their patients.

If you want to understand what healthcare staff like nurses go through in their field, then don’t pass up the chance to read the reality in The Ones Who Stayed with Me.

Like her mother, Eliza sees beyond the five senses as a conduit of pure consciousness. As she drifts through quantum consciousness, she learns of her past, new allies, and a dark threat behind another door to her future.

A Salt Pines Mystery  

My short story, Kurst, published the year prior in Midnight Garden is based on an ancient curse. This submission cycle, I decided to be a reader and not a participant, since I wrote a story about the theme last year. I don't want to bore anyone! 

Funny thing is, the initial story took on a life of its own. Now, Kurst is part of A Salt Pines Mystery trilogy of novelettes/novellas... so, altogether does that make a full novel then? We're going to find out! 

The first story is Wallen. It's about Karen Kurst's ancestor, who started on this journey to solve the homicidal monster mystery. Next, is Kurst, about Karen, who you all met in Midnight Garden. The last story is Bear. The intrepid guide of the mystery.  

Or, is he? 

Just adding to the mystery!

Undawnted and the Paranormal 

As a paranormal explorer, investigator, and researcher for over two decades, I support the saving of the Conjuring House. 

Over the years, I visited various locations and have great stories to tell about them, including: The Whaley House, Star of India, and the now converted to an office building, the Santa Rita Hotel. I was immersed, so much so, that I became a horror journalist for the local speculative fiction society and wrote about my adventures to haunted locations. 

The byline, as well as other columns (e.g., books, reviews, featured article, etc.), earned me three consecutive Media Press Badges at Comic-Con San Diego before my body collapsed due to my disabling health conditions. That's plural. I fight for my life every day, but I continue to support others' efforts to bring about positive outcomes in the world.  

As I learned about myself, I am a sensitive to energies. A light in the dark. Understandably, the paranormal has been a constant companion throughout my life. At first, I did not understand the occurrences that I experienced from childhood, youth, and into adulthood until I confronted them. Now, I am at peace with the unknown. 

However, as a history major, I would love for this home to be saved. It predates the establishment of the United States. The home and property are a treasure. History, if possible, should be salvaged, not destroyed.

Hello, I'm Jason Hawes.

Many of you may know me from Ghost Hunters.

I've dedicated my life to exploring the unknown and trying to make this field accessible for everyone.

I have never wanted to buy the Conjuring House. I’ve publicly stated this many times over the years, and I meant it. 

 

But, I have been contacted by past owners, employees, residents, all begging me to step in and try to save this property from being exploited and priced out of the range of the majority of people.

If you are unaware, The Conjuring House is going up for auction on October 31'st. 

 

If we don’t step in, there’s a very real chance it will be bought by some whose only goal is to turn it into a money making machine.

This isn’t just another piece of real estate. This house is an important part of paranormal history. 

 

It's a place that has drawn all types of investigators. Believers, Non believers, skeptics, debunkers and those that are simply curious from all over the world.

For decades, it has connected people. It has sparked curiosity, debate, and exploration. It’s a place that has helped keep history alive, and it deserves to be preserved, not exploited.

I’ve decided to act because so many have asked for my help.

I believe that as a community, we can make a difference. 

 

I’ve created this GoFundMe to raise funds needed to save the Conjuring House at auction. 

 

I’ll personally add as much as possible to give us the best possible chance to succeed.

If we’re successful, the Conjuring House will be placed into an LLC and those from this properties history will help run it and keep it open. 

 

Those who know and respect the true history of the property. They will oversee its day-to-day operations, keeping it open for tours, investigations, and anyone who wants to experience it.

I want to be clear:

I’m not looking to profit from this gofundme, and I have no plans to run the daily operations. This will cost me money!

I’m stepping in now for only one reason, because people I care deeply for asked me to. 

 

Lets try to preserve this house and protect its legacy for the paranormal community and for future generations, and to keep it from being priced out of the majority of peoples ability.

This truly feels like the last chance to save the Conjuring House. If we don’t act now, we may lose it forever to some that want it to be a money making machine, who won’t honor its history or its significance.

I can’t do this alone. To succeed, I'm asking everyone who cares about this property, and about what it represents, to step up and help.

How the Funds Will Be Used

Every dollar raised in this campaign will go directly toward purchasing the Conjuring House at auction.

If we are successful at the auction, the property will be placed into an LLC and be run by those from its history that are dedicated to preserving it.

I want to be absolutely clear: I am not seeking to profit from this Gofundme.

My role here is clear. I have been asked to help save this property by Andrea Perron, and many others around the globe. 

 

All I can do try!

This is a big undertaking, and I am willing to reconsider my position and help do what I can. This will take a historic movement! 

 

Together, We can make sure it remains open for tours, investigations, and visitors for generations to come.

If we do not win the auction, Refunds will be granted "unless a donor chooses to have their contribution directed toward other historic preservation efforts".

If we succeed and raise more than what is needed to purchase the property, any surplus will be used for restoration, repairs, maintenance, and updates that keep the history and significance of the house alive.
