Full Moons and Rain Showers

The Sonoran Desert has come alive with thunder and lightning. The monsoon has returned. Rain drops here and there. Gusty winds flatten the landscape with dust and dirt. The arid landscape rages once again.

The full moon rises without mark of time. Clouds inundate the sky and make visualizing that much more difficult. All is hidden under a blanket of grey. Planets, stars, and the full moon fight to be seen between storm clusters.

The rain has come to the city. Sparse. Needed. The moisture comes as it pleases. Mother Nature has cried out her tears over the lower deserts and cannot make it passed the rugged terrain of mountains.

The lightning and thunder recede. No shows tonight. The city is safe again.

Safe from the wind, bright lights, clapping sound, and precipitation.  Where is my rain? What spell was cast to deprive me of what is mine? Release your hold and let life bloom.

The monsoon is here. Although, I cannot touch or feel the intensity of the heat and humidity merge, I can watch from afar. The ranis will come. I am certain.

All we have to do it pray.

The Dog Days of Summer

Tomorrow will be 1m45s shorter.

 Yeah, yeah, yeah... promises, promises.

Summer cannot end soon enough. I live in a hot and arid location. It is great to live here most of the year, except June through September. 

Before I was taken ill, I loved the heat. Now, my body cannot regulate itself as well to extremes in temperature be it hot or cold. The heat of the desert creates more lethargic days and days filled with migraines. Some headache cycles can last for ten or more days. 

So I am regulated to the indoors, only to venture out into the night. That means I try to sleep days and only do chores in the early morning hours with the rising sun. 

Winters are a little different. I am up by mid morning and back in bed by mid afternoon as I cannot get warm without the direct sunlight. So somewhere in the middle I do my one hour of chores, grab a shower, and hunker down until the sun warms my home again.

What a life! 

I feel like I live on a bed life preserver. 

I hope this coming winter I can get some creativity flowing again. This spring and summer have been harsh on me. Mean people, especially, have reared their ugly heads and my body cannot take the stress. Migraines, sleepathons are amongst the notables. 

But I am ready to start getting my art and writing out there again. I do not know exactly where as of yet. I am working on it. 

I am making a plan and checking it twice. 

Maybe this time the planets will align to come to my aid and not to my determent.

Comet Watchers, Lovejoy is Making an Appearance This Week

I was out last night for a moment. 

The night was cold in the desert but the sky was brilliant. The stars were shining above me. Orion glided onto the scene taking up most of the arena. Off to the north and west was Jupiter following the gallant hunter.

Tonight when I get my optical fix, I will be taking my binoculars with me. Comet Lovejoy should be passing near Orion's belt.

By the Light of the Pale Moon

That's right, folks, it's that time of the month again. The moon is full in the heavens. All the crazies are out and the stars like to twinkle, twinkle. 

I cannot hide it any longer. I am in love. I love the night sky. 

I love Orion, the planets, nebulae, Milky Way... all of it!

I have these great binoculars that are just about as good as any telescope I have ever had but these binoculars are easier to position. Much more efficient. I do not have to fumble around with lens, or balance, or anything. I point and gaze.

And, I do gaze.... remember, I'm in love ;)

I may not be the best astronomer in the world, but I  am the happiest. Tonight, before I go to bed, I am going to head outside and look up at the near full moon and wonder. I will wonder why I am the only one outside gazing upward.

When you look at the marvels in our solar system, you can dream of worlds beyond our own. You can dream. You can see that we are but a small blue planet in an ever expanding red shift. 

Out there is where we come from. Out there is who we are. Out there is the undiscovered country of our own imaginations.
