Sights and Smells of Autumn Writing

Cooler weather has come to the Sonoran Desert! Autumn has arrived.

With the crescent moon in the sky and Mars glowing after sunset, this new season has wowed and wooed the observer. The smell of autumn fills the air with fire pits, mesquite, and marshmallows.

Writers can use their senses to show the reader. In the above paragraph, the reader is taken on a journey through their senses and engage with the season. Autumn is alive on crisp, cool evenings.

Reading and writing should never be a passive event.

Get your autumn into action! Write for the five senses. Engage with the reader.

And, rejoice in the return to pumpkin pie, sweet potatoes, and spices!

Have a great and wonderful day!

The Dog Days of Summer

Tomorrow will be 1m45s shorter.

 Yeah, yeah, yeah... promises, promises.

Summer cannot end soon enough. I live in a hot and arid location. It is great to live here most of the year, except June through September.

Before I was taken ill, I loved the heat. Now, my body cannot regulate itself as well to extremes in temperature be it hot or cold. The heat of the desert creates more lethargic days and days filled with migraines. Some headache cycles can last for ten or more days.

So I am regulated to the indoors, only to venture out into the night. That means I try to sleep days and only do chores in the early morning hours with the rising sun.

Winters are a little different. I am up by mid morning and back in bed by mid afternoon as I cannot get warm without the direct sunlight. So somewhere in the middle I do my one hour of chores, grab a shower, and hunker down until the sun warms my home again.

What a life!

I feel like I live on a bed life preserver.

I hope this coming winter I can get some creativity flowing again. This spring and summer have been harsh on me. Mean people, especially, have reared their ugly heads and my body cannot take the stress. Migraines, sleepathons are amongst the notables.

But I am ready to start getting my art and writing out there again. I do not know exactly where as of yet. I am working on it.

I am making a plan and checking it twice.

Maybe this time the planets will align to come to my aid and not to my determent.

How do you cope with life interfering with your plans?

Have a great and wonderful day!

So It Begins

It's funny.

When you are working on fleshing out one of your stories, you start to cheer for every page and/or 1000 words you can add.

Of course my cats don't care. They hang out in the room with me. Some sleep on the floor. Some sleep on the dresser. The brave ones sleep on the bed while I type.

Brave because I am in and out, up and down. I must refill my glass. I must get a munchie. I need a break. Sometimes I go just to pet and tease a cat!

Now that it is 111+ here in Phoenix, I keep the house cool in the back part. The front part gets most of the sun so I close the accordion door on the hallway I had put up a few years ago and chill out in my room.

I am laid up in bed anyway, I might as well take advantage.

Oh, you don't know about accordion doors? Shop online at Lowes or Home Depot. Then have a handy man place one at the end of your hall. The door helps keep the heat or the a/c in the bedrooms and not where it's not needed during the day or night.

I am so glad I put one up.

Now for solar...

Have a great and wonderful day!
