Spring Dreams is Now for Seasonal Reads

The Earth and all her creatures have awakened from their hibernation.
The wind has turned warm. Butterflies flutter around. Bees buzz. Flowers bloom and scent the air with the fragrance of rich nectar.

The day grows longer towards summer time. Spring fever has set your senses to wild.

How do you return from cloud nine? Why, read, of course!

Read the selections in Spring Dreams throughout the season.

Rain Showers and October Flowers

A scary, electric thunderstorm rolled through my neighborhood this evening.

The storm appeared to build on top of our area as an orange sun set in the distance. The cloud to cloud lightning illuminated the sky in muted tones of blue and white. The trees and bushes swayed under the wind bursts and blows. The rain splattered and spit until the gush of a downpour soaked everything in its path.

The last surge of the monsoon was the best one of the season. Finally the parched earth saw some measure of moist relief. The dirty air from previous dust storms was cleaned as the smell of humidity doused the otherwise hot and dry molecules. A faint odor of ozone hung between the hydrogen and oxygen covalent bonds. The air was indeed electric to the smell as well as touch.

Now the season is over.

Will this rainy evening bring with it flowers in October? Or just the memory of the last vestiges of summer spilling over into an autumn night? Sunflowers have hidden away to sleep until the sun rises in half a day's hours.

The night is calm once again. The stars beam their lights. The nestled birds are quiet upon the wind.

Have a great and wonderful day.

Spring Emerges...

All the times we scoff at the ritual of Groundhog Day, and this year the little bugger was right.

Spring emerged early here in the Sonora Desert. Trees and wild flowers are in bloom. The temperatures have been warm during the afternoons and cool in the early morning hours.  Just perfect.

Birds are singing and nesting. Bugs are zooming around the yards. The desert is alive.

And, so are people's allergies. Mornings are not complete without a series of sneezes. Achoo!

I wish these picturesque moments could last. Cloudless, blue skies, cool gentle breezes, and a warm sun to make everything grow. All the ingredients to inspire a poem or two.

Have a great and wonderful day!

Vultures and Telemarketers

Vultures.

We all know them. We have had these people in our life but have you ever seen one? A  real, wild vulture?

I have.

I was able to cross this item off my bucket list before I had a chance to put it on. One day someone brought me a gift in his hands. Someone had discovered a baby vulture. I petted its head and then washed my hands for several minutes just in case. My close encounter with the carrion kind was over 10 years ago, but I still remember it.

To pet a wild, carrion bird is awe inspiring. So fragile but so grand. Carrion birds are necessary to the ecosystem. To meet one is a very humbling experience.

So earlier this week when I viewed six vultures gliding on the air toward their nesting trees a couple miles away by the river front, I remembered my personal introduction to a baby one.

But there are other types of vultures. People vultures. With my illness and being disabled by it, I have had my fair share of vulture run-ins. Even now, I have to deal with a situation I should not have to because other people feel entitled to what is not theirs. Vultures.

As I slept in my bed one night, someone called at almost 3am. I did not bother to even pick up. After days of incessant ringing, I answered. The sad situation was it was a telemarketer. The Asian sounding woman on the other end was looking for a Josh. Really? Josh Gates, perhaps?

After I trashed her dreams of finding Josh, she made the travel opportunity available to me. Wait for it... I'm sorry, I am disabled and cannot travel. Let the guilt trip for calling my ass begin. Well, I doubt that company will be calling my unlisted, Do Not Call List number again.

Vultures.

Have a great and vulture free day!
