With the expense of creating cover art, layouts, and pdf's, the costs of the software is enough as it is, but luckily we are in-house creators of art and content. So we escape the extra fees of purchasing those services.
ISBN's are something all authors should own for themselves. It is your production label. It is your global identifier.
Add the cost of the bar code, government copyright, and Library of Congress fees, one book can total more than $200 before one dime is collected from public purchase.
